Asterisk* is a fun boutique selling dainty gold and silver designs, including necklaces, rings, and earrings, as well as other accessories. The style is simple and minimalist, which makes their pieces very versatile. Directions.
Yin Jewelry for the Soul
Yin Jewelry for the Soul offers necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that often play up the spiritual side of Bali. We picked up a delicate gold pendant necklace with a lotus flower here, that has become one of our favorite souvenirs to remember our time in Bali.
All pieces are made locally, supporting the livelihood of numerous Balinese artisans. As an added feel-good, some dedicated collections even provide employment to formerly-incarcerated individuals, support community health initiatives, and more. Directions.
Home Goods and Textiles
Itak Batik
Itak Batik is one of our favorite stores in Ubud, with artisan home goods, clothing and accessories. All fabrics are done in the traditional Indonesian design style of batik, with vibrant patterns of blues and whites. Expect to pay Western prices, but with the cost comes a quality piece for your home.
Directions: There are two locations in Ubud, on Jl. Raya and Jl. Monkey Forest.
Threads of Life
Threads of Life is another great option for fair trade textiles. The business supports local weavers, sustaining traditional techniques and providing the artisans with the economic means to maintain their craft.
The store retails quality pillows, throws, table runners, scarves, purses, woodwork, and more.
Besides the storefront, Threads of Life also has a studio where you can learn how to make batik and dye indigo. Directions.
Gaya Ceramic and Design
If you’re looking for exquisitely-crafted porcelain or stone ware, Gaya Ceramic and Design carries a large selection of statement pieces for the kitchen, bath, and home.
Located just outside the city center, Gaya also hosts regular ceramics classes, workshops, and a dedicated artist in residence program. Directions.

Kou
We love the higher end Kou, which specializes in all-natural gifts. Their range of organic products include scented soaps, bath salts, local jams and honeys, and kitchen salts.
Everything is beautifully packaged, and makes a lovely gift for friends back home. Directions.

Lemongrass is another delightful bath and body boutique. While perhaps not as posh as Kou, the more economically priced inventory still offers numerous locally sourced body washes, bath salts, lotions, massage oils, and more. Directions.

Tea afficionados will swoon over Artteas, which also doubles as a full-service tea house. Their premium teas are sourced from the highest-grade plantations in Indonesia and neighboring countries, for a refined taste of the region.

Coffee
If you’re looking to bring home a flavor of the region, it doesn’t get much more Indonesian than coffee. The island nation is one of the world’s leading exporters, and in recent years the craft coffee scene of Ubud has experienced enormous growth. You’ll find numerous local roasters in town, all of whom take their profession seriously. Below are a few of our favorites.
Anomali Coffee
As a gift for friends or family, Anomali may make the best presentation. The distinctive packaging feature gorgeous designs, and highlights the plantation zone, altitude, and unique roasting process, along with suggested brewing methods and grind sizes for each.
Anomali retails top-tier beans both from Bali and the surrounding islands, and is well-suited for connoisseurs who wish to elevate their beverage to an art form. Directions.
Ubud Coffee Roastery
Arguably the most well-known purveyor in town, Ubud Coffee does a thriving business, and beans are roasted on-site. They specialize in single-origin brews, but also offer some locally sourced house blends.
Besides coffee, Ubud Coffee Roasters also sells high-grade drinking chocolate, raw cacao powder, and coffee accessories. Directions.
Seniman Coffee
Seniman calls themselves a coffee studio, which feels accurate for two owners who are lifelong students of the craft. All beans are sourced within Indonesia, but you can choose whether to stay local with a Bali roast or explore other coffee-growing regions along the archipelago. Educated baristas will happily assist you in selecting a style based on your preferred flavor notes.
For those in Ubud, Seniman also offers educational coffee workshops for everyone from professional baristas to amateur coffee-lovers, tailored to each group’s knowledge and interests. Directions.
Markets
Ubud Art Market
Ubud Art Market is undeniably the largest market in town. The maze of narrow alleyways is crammed with vendors hawking everything from art, purses, and textiles, to home decor and knick-knacks. What may seem “cheap” to some is “good value” to others, but regardless, it’s fun to peruse, and you may come away with a well-haggled treasure. Directions.
Jl. Raya Andong
If you’re in the market for traditional Balinese carvings or furniture, head to Jl. Raya Andong, the main road between Ubud and Tegallalang.
Here, you’ll find local artisans selling their wares, many of which are extremely ornate, at wholesale prices. None of the artisans have a web presence, so you’ll need to cruise the street and pull over whenever you see something you like. Directions.
